About Us
Shalom Baptist Church began in 1987 as God planted a dream and vision in Elder Pastor Pace’s heart of a congregation of believers whose sole purpose was to fulfill the great commission given by the Lord Jesus Christ, to go into all the world and make disciples.
After much prayer and consideration. Elder Pastor Pace shared God’s vision with his wife Deleria and some close friends who joined him in prayer. The group of seven began to hold prayer meetings in November 1986 in the home of Deacon John B. and Mrs. Mildred Jones.
On April 5, 1987, Shalom held its first worship service in the Mary Harmon Weeks Elementary School with over 200 in attendance and 8 souls united with the church.
By the grace of God, Shalom built and moved into its present sanctuary in December of 1990. Shalom has grown from seven to a congregation of over 300 believers who are faithfully proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, going into all the world making disciples of all nations.
What We Believe
Our Pastor

Our Pastor
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.
Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV
As the primary spiritual authority, Senior Pastor David Cobbins, Jr. has the responsibility of proclaiming God’s Word to the congregants; coordinating the ministry so that it effectively meets the spiritual, social, and physical needs of members and the community; and communicating the vision of God for the church.
Pastor David’s service in ministry first began as a musician and later as a deacon of Love United, a church founded by his uncle, Pastor Dan Vassol Sr. Pastor David has maintained leadership in other ministries, such as leading a young men’s outreach and being a Sunday school teacher.
Pastor David inherited his passion for music from his family. He derives from an extended line of Pastors, Bishops, and musicians known throughout the metropolitan KC area. Pastor David has shared his gift of music by serving as minister of music and music director for over 25 years.
Pastor David grew up with a love for God at an early age. He constantly sensed there was a “calling” on his life. However, he didn’t readily respond to it. In October 2011, after many sleepless nights and careful thought and consideration, Pastor David conceded to the summons God had placed for him to proclaim the gospel of Christ. He preached his first sermon in December of the same year.
Pastor David was asked to Shepard Shalom Missionary Baptist Church in April 2021.
Pastor David’s vision and resolve are for all to receive spiritual, physical, and emotional healing and be disciples of Christ, the heavenly Father.
Pastor David has a caring and compassionate heart for people. He wants everyone to know that there is still hope for their lives through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Pastor David has been married to his lovely wife, Carla Cobbins, for over 30 years. They share one son and have seven grandchildren. Together, they enjoy serving in God’s Kingdom and sharing in leadership as Senior Pastor and First Lady of Shalom Missionary Baptist Church.
